Valbenazine can also reduce the involuntary movements (chorea) associated with Huntington's disease, a genetic disorder that affects the brain. By decreasing involuntary movements, valbenazine can improve your participation in your normal daily activities. Valbenazine is believed to work by lowering the levels of certain brain chemicals that influence the function of your nerves and muscles (monoamines such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine).
