Indication & Dosage: Favirest (Favipiravir), generic Avigan is a prescription medicine used to treat of novel or re-emerging pandemic influenza virus infections, specifically in cases where other influenza antiviral agents are ineffective or insufficiently effective. Favipiravir is a pyrazinecarboxamide derivative with broad-spectrum activity against RNA viruses. Favipiravir, the active ingredient in Favirest, is metabolized by host enzymes into its active form, favipiravir-ribofuranosyl-5'-triphosphate. This active metabolite selectively inhibits viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), thereby impeding the replication of influenza viral RNA. Favirest manufactured by Everest Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh. Favipiravi has to take orally twice daily with or without food. Side Effects: The most common side effects of Favipiravir are: Hyperuricemia (increased uric acid), Diarrhea, Decreased neutrophil count, Elevated liver enzymes (AST, ALT).
