Indication & Dosage: Serontin (Ethosuximide), generic Zarontin is a prescription medicine used to treat of monotherapy or adjunctive therapy to prevent and manage absence seizures/ epilepsy, also known as petit mal seizures. Ethosuximide functions by modulating the abnormal electrical activity in the brain that manifests during a seizure. Ethosuximide suppresses the paroxysmal three cycle per second spike and wave activity associated with lapses of consciousness which is common in absence (petit mal) seizures. The frequency of epileptiform attacks is reduced, apparently by depression of the motor cortex and elevation of the threshold of the central nervous system to convulsive stimuli. Serontin manufactured by ACI Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh. Ethosuximide has to take orally once or twice daily with or without food as directed by patients doctor. Side Effects: The most common side effects of Ethosuximide are: Drowsiness , dizziness , tiredness , headache , stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, diarrhea, or loss of coordination.
